OpenOffice.org 3 beta is fast!

without comments

I can’t wait the stable release! After years of watching the splash screens I was delighted to see how fast is the new OOo beta. Service guys has a big XLS pricelist of the service parts, this beta software opened this huge file with such an easyness and speed… I will like the native OOo, I think.NeoOffice is still better if you have to edit something, I had many problems with the fonts and chart sizes, this is normal for a beta. Help the developers with your tests, check the news page on openoffice.org website.

iPhone SDK

without comments

This morning I have finished porting iLines to official SDK. Works well. I have to admit there are drawbacks (lack of Interface Builder, coming soon) but my code was also buggy (I’m not surprised :) ) So now I know I’ll be able to write software and probably I’ll do it. Before this Apple will have to release firmware 2.0 and this is the hardest thing to wait for something you can use now (theoretically). I’m glad and sad. Very.

Mac OS X leopard (aka 10.5) first impressions

with one comment

The new cat gives me so much, I can’t count everything.
After a clean install I have moved my apps into the Applications folder, then Application Support, Preferences and many things from my old home folder. After this I had a clean leo with my apps working (or not :) )

I had to squash some bugs, too, for example FileMaker works with US locale but nothing else, hotkeys stopped to work with international keyboard layouts (for example command-`, move focus to next window) it’s really hard.

I had fights with apache2 and virtual host settings (IPv6 entries in /etc/hosts), but now I have php5 with apache2 without having to recompile anything.

I had to download some beta programs instead of stable releases, but it’s OK.

Another thing: XCode3 is a gift :D

Why do I blog

without comments

Sometimes I just need to write my ideas down… or had a bad day and I have to write it down, delete it and it’s better. Sometimes I just want to push the record button and tell “OK, I was stupid”.

I’m still trying to find the way out of tons of job. It’s not easy because when you finish one two new idea owner appears and try to convince you that you are the best to do his job. I’ve got enough task to fill this year, but I know I will fail to finish half of them because of the another tasks and deadlines.

I know I’m not alone with this, but it’s not better to know it, eighter. I should rest instead to heal myself. I really need a rest. I’m tired.

Hell, yes. I had problem with a regexp today and I wrote a small eval() based code (3 or 4 lines) what I can use as debugger… in the evening I had a crazy idea…

It’s not official, barely legal (it’s from an Adium theme) but looks good. To install: get it here and after uncompressing copy it into /Applications/Skype.app/Contents/Resources/ChatStyles/ (or find the according folder on Linux and Windows). You cannot switch the color scheme and can’t show avatars, but it’s cute.

I am mad, I know. I’ve made the XKCD Time Factorisation widget for other XKCD fans from their comic strip.

I hope you will find it funny. Another useless widget on your Mac OS X Dashboard :) .
